Case 5.

Secondary Table
Calculations

Secondary table calculation is the application of a table calculation to an already existing table calculation (analog to nested table calculations). Tableau allows configure primary and secondary table calculations separately, which expands the possibilities of using this functionality.

How do secondary table calculations help?

  • Secondary table calculations can be used to create derived metrics based on the data's existing metrics.
  • Use a secondary table calculation to calculate the percentage of a total by dividing one metric by another. It can be a helpful tool in BI for creating meaningful metrics and insights from existing data without manually calculating values.

  • Additionally, you may use secondary table calculations to compare metrics across different periods, making it easier to identify trends and correlations.
